I was listening to Richard Syrett’s “The Conspiracy Show” podcast from July 7th. The podcast episode was titled Underground Military Bases and he had Mary A. Joyce (the author of several books and the lady who runs Skyships Over Cashiers site) on as a guest.
She was talking about several underground military bases in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and mentioned the Milehigh Campground. I was driving at the time and this caught my ear quickly as we vacation near there. It also triggered a memory.
Mary was speaking to the fact that one of her friends had been out in the area taking pictures of a Masonic Marker near this area and had heard strange noises. She’s speaking about a place I visit at least once a year with my family. We’ve stopped by this marker every year for the passed six years. But that’s another post.

Mile High Overlook is one of my favorite discoveries off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The view is fantastic. And the pics I get are usually phenomenal, at least to me.
Her mention of Mile High Campground and it’s connection to the base spurred a memory.
A year ago, M.A.G.S. and me were up for an anniversary weekend and went up on the parkway at night so I could get some pics of the clouds with the moon.
At the Mile High Overlook was a military style vehicle sitting at one end. Just sitting there. No big deal. It was off and no one was around. I took my pics and we left.
The next day we returned because of the early morning fog (again great pics) and the truck was still there. No big deal, people pick up military surplus vehicles and such all the time. Just remembering it was strange to me because of the mention of the supposed underground base. The thing is this time two guys are at the truck throwing rucks in the back and they’re dressed in camo. No big deal, again, military surplus. People pick it up all the time.
Just a coincidence.
Except there’s no such thing as a coincidence.
Get off the highway.
