The Old Magic

From a question asked on here about the old ways (encyclopedias and libraries) I had an excellent discussion with my son yesterday.

I’m fifty-six. He’s fifteen. I mentioned the Dewey Decimal System to him and he was surprised that I was surprised he knew the old magic.

“Remember, Dad, we are on the outskirts.”

Our school district doesn’t bother with us much but then they don’t bother us much either.

Lack of tech meant he learned the old ways.

The elementary school he went to was our old high school, before consolidation.

All the schools elementary through high are now consolidated. Three different schools brought together.

Those three were the “red-headed step children” of our school district.

Expenses were spared so the other schools of the district could have the best.

Our kids came out smarter.

Sometimes, the old ways are best.
