Like the first pic says…

This year, due to several different reasons, we decided to stay home and not take a big vacation. Our daughter is working now and her time off doesn’t sync with ours. The mountains, where we prefer to vacation, took it hard during Hurricane Helene (maybe you heard, maybe not.) The wife and I talked about it and can’t see going through the area just on vacation while folk are still trying to get their actual lives back together.

$340k+ for a car?!

So instead we decided to hang around the house and go here and there on shorter day trips. We had the chance to take care of a few real life things such as doctors appointments earlier in the week and today for July 4th we decided to take the kids and head off to Charlotte.

The whole of it is a laugh or laughable to us. It’s a good view of the world.

We revisited some of the old haunts like our favorite comic book stores. I passed that particular itch to my daughter.

We were talking about Toys R Us being gone for the last six years because that was one of the places we always visited when the kids were young and my daughter mentioned the fact that Toys R Us is making a comeback of sorts.

Toys R Us is undergoing a phased re-expansion in the US, focusing on two main approaches: opening new flagship stores and integrating smaller shops within Macy’s department store. Currently, there are 452 Toys R Us shops inside Macy’s nationwide.

We found the location inside Macy’s at South Park today and we were not impressed. It looked like no one was taking care of the thing at all. Opened boxes, stolen merchandise, complete chaos.

But it tickled my daughter to death to find the store inside the store.

We saw a lot of higher priced merchandise at that mall today. Gucci, Balenziaga, Rolex, etc.

It amazes me that people need things like that to prove or show their worth.

I do wear an Apple Watch, but it isn’t the highest priced one I can purchase. It tells the time and does a great many other things, all of which I find useful as tools for work and saving time.

A bag is a bag, as we found out while we were walking through this place when a lady popped out of a shop and asked my wife where she got her bag.

When my wife replied Hobby Lobby the lady asked where that was. She honestly didn’t know what Hobby Lobby was. Maybe you don’t, and that’s okay. We got a laugh out of it. Our family is a sarcastic bunch, if we aren’t picking at or laughing at each other then we couldn’t take it. The whole of it is a laugh or laughable to us. It’s a good view of the world.

That lady would probably have an aneurism if she ever walked into a Walmart…if she knew what and where one was. It’s surprising to see someone’s tiny little bubble in the world. I’m reminded of the term non-player character.

A bag is a bag, a watch is a watch.

All in all we had a good day together and that’s what it’s really all about. I’ve got a good little family. Wife, daughter, son, and two cats. One of the cats thinks she’s human and that I am her dad. I’m okay with that.

Creative Loafing was my go to for finding stuff to do back in the day when I was younger and somewhat single in Charlotte. The city has changed. And I noticed Creative Loafing’s little stand near the comic shop today. It brought back memories.

Creative Loafing is sadly, no more.
